Dolpo region was opened in 1989 and contains the Shey Phoksundo NationalPark, established in 1984 to preserve a large portion of the land in this area. It is quite impressive, with many passes as high as 5000 meters. People here are Tibetan speaking people and they follow Bon, the ancient animistic faith of Tibet and Buddhism. They grow buckwheat and barley and tend to large herds of goats, sheep, yak etc. The shining Ringmo Lake, with its unearthly turquoise blue water, makes a trip to this region an unforgettable.
Phoksundo Lake Dolpo is an ancient Tibetan kingdom located in the north east part of Nepal. It was only opened to trekkers in 1990. The Himalayan range can be seen in all its splendor, and Phoksondo Lake with the Ringmo village provide some of the most beautiful Nepalese scenery.
We follow the ancient Tibetan salt caravan route, across two high passes and through the wilderness in one of Nepals most remote areas. In the Dolpo region the monsoon, created by the sea winds blowing from the Gulf of Bengal, is tempered by the Dhaulaghiri range and trekking is therefore also possible during the summer, a period during which flora explodes in all its splendor: orchids, edelweiss, campanules, forget-me-nots Trekking.
